With award-winning housebuilder Shanly Homes, downsizing was a dream for 59-year-old David Law and his family when they purchased a new home at Compass Fields, Watford. After selling their five-bedroomproperty in Edgware, Greater London, David and his wife Elizabeth, 56, and his daughter are now enjoying life in their new luxurious three-bedroom home.
Since 2016, more than 3.9 million over-55s in the UK have made the decision to downsize to a less expensive property later in life, with the main reason cited as being the convenience of running a smaller home. When cracks in their previous property began to show, David, a bespoke jewellery designer based in London, and Elizabeth were faced with the decision of investing huge sums of money in repairs or to sell their home, where they had lived for 30 years, to search for something smaller and easier to maintain.
He explained: "Our previous property in Edgware was beginning to need some serious attention. Over the course of time these maintenance costs would have amounted to tens of thousands of pounds, so it made absolute sense to save money by purchasing a new build home, which will cost us less to maintain and not need any work doing upfront.
David said: "We were completely blown away after visiting the Compass Fields show home. The development just ticked all the boxes for us. The finish of the new home was completed to a really high specification, which meant that we could move in stress-free."
"Our new home is smaller than the property we left, but it gives us so much more: it was the best decision we could have made. The help and support we have received from Shanly Homes throughout our moving process has been great. Having the 10-year warranty gives us peace of mind in the quality of our home, which we wouldn't have got with an older property. It's in an idyllic location and the large landscaped garden sold it for me."
The properties at Compass Fields are designed with flexible living in mind. Each property benefits from spacious accommodation, open plan kitchens with integrated Siemens appliances and master bedrooms complete with fitted wardrobes and en-suite bathrooms. The development offers private off-street parking with some homes benefiting from garages, and beautifully landscaped gardens which back onto open fields.
David added, "Moving out of London I was concerned about the commute to work each morning, although I needn't have worried: we're a stone's throw from Bushey station which means I'm in London Euston in 30 minutes. If anything, a direct route into London is easier than getting around on the tube during rush hour!"
Located on Bucks Avenue, the collection of 18 stunning three and four-bedroom homes at Compass Fields are ideally placed between Watford's lively town centre and the tranquil Hertfordshire countryside. The development is just a 10-minute drive from the Intu Watford shopping centre which has recently been redeveloped, with a range of retail shops, a large Cineworld Imax cinema, leisure complex and vibrant new restaurants under one roof.
Only a ten-minute walk from Bushey station, residents have easy access into London in 30 minutes. Additionally, both the M1 and M25 motorways are less than half an hour away, providing motorway links across the country.
