Lucy Watkins knows a great investment when she sees it. The 36-year-old bought her first apartment in Notting Hill when she was 19, using profits from her independent clothing shop set up a year earlier. Fast-forward to 2018, and Lucy is a private landlord with six homes across the South East. Earlier this year Lucy bought a two-bedroom apartment at Shanly Homes' Bridge House development in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, and couldn't be happier with her purchase.
Speaking about her portfolio, Lucy says: "Property is a great long-term investment. When I bought my first flat in Notting Hill, values were much cheaper, and the growth has enabled me to purchase further properties in Hastings and Norfolk, as well as this apartment in Walton-on-Thames. It was actually a friend who spotted Bridge House, aware that I wanted to expand my portfolio of buy-to-let homes. He lives nearby and told me to check it out, knowing the location would be good for renters. He wasn't wrong - the site is really well placed for commuting into London, and for those wanting to enjoy the town, which my current tenant does.
"Shanly Homes has been brilliant throughout the process, working efficiently to progress my purchase without any hiccups. From sales all the way through to customer care, the team went the extra mile to make it not feel like just another business transaction. The apartment is lovely, and everything is completed to a high standard, meaning I haven't had to do any work to it before I let it. It also includes a car parking space which is such a rarity, so I'm delighted, as is my new tenant. I had interest right away and the property was occupied in just a few days."
The two-bedroom apartments at Bridge House enjoy open-plan living and kitchen areas with fully integrated AEG and Zanussi appliances. The family bathrooms and en-suites are fitted with Ideal Standard sanitaryware and both bedrooms feature fitted wardrobes.
Bridge House is in a highly sought-after location, something Lucy recognised. Close to the River Thames, residents can enjoy the many miles of towpaths and cycle routes along its banks. The town centre and high street are a short walk away, providing an abundance of popular retailers including Next, Jigsaw and Jacques Vert to name but a few. Foodies are also well catered for with Wagamama, Giraffe and Gourmet Burger Kitchen in the town.
Walton-on-Thames is a great destination for London commuters with trains to London Waterloo taking just 25 minutes. Road connections are also good, with easy access to the M3 for the M25 and journeys further afield.
