Things to do in Marlow this August bank holiday

Following the recent wet weather, it's a relief to see that this August bank holiday is going to be a scorcher. So, we have compiled a list of things to do to help you make the most of this weekend in Marlow, Buckinghamshire.

Higginson Park

Relax and unwind in Higginson Park, a Green Flag park which has been a public park since 1926, with large expanses of lawn, flowerbeds, fine trees and a maze. Why not take a stroll along the Thames Path and find a sunny spot in the park to tuck into a picnic? You could even pop into Marlow Museum for a free exhibition or see if you can spot the statue of Olympic rowing hero, Sir Steve Redgrave.

Bank holiday weekend Public Steamboat Trips

Enjoy the basking in the glorious sunshine from a boat, by cruising along the River Thames aboard the carbon neutral 1883 steam passenger vessel 'Alaska'. Boats leave on the hour every hour from 10am to 5pm (except for 1pm) and is sure to be a family favourite. Prices are £15 for adults and £10 for children and seniors.

Clayton's Marlow Presents... Bar-Bados All Day Carnival Party

Clayton's Bar is bringing Notting Hill Carnival vibes to Marlow's doorstep, with their Bar-Bados All Day Carnival Party. If you think Caribbean BBQ's, frozen daquiris and steel bands are your cup of tea, then get your tropical shirts and sunglasses ready and head down to Clayton's. Entry is free until 7pm from which point it will be £5 on the door.

Grab a bite to eat

Marlow doesn't fall short of delicious places to eat, with a restaurant or café to cater for every cuisine. If you are foodie, or just appreciate a high-quality meal, you might want to visit one of Tom Kerridge's tasty eateries. Whether you go for The Coach for classic pub grub or The Butcher's Tap, which doubles up as a pub and a butcher during the day, you won't be disappointed.

Water activities

Keep the kids (and yourselves!) entertained this weekend and explore Marlow Open Water Swim at Westhorpe Lake. Hire a wetsuit and some goggles and go for a dip, or if open-water swimming sounds a little too strenuous for your relaxed bank holiday, rent out a paddleboard or kayak.
