Interior design trends for 2020

Sustainable Design

Homeowners this year are increasingly looking for well-made, quality designs with longevity. When it comes to choosing furniture in 2020, don't automatically opt for the cheapest option, sustainability is about shopping for pieces that will last many years. Another sustainable interior design idea to save energy on lighting is picking a light colour pallet for your walls which reflect more life, reducing the need for artificial lighting. As well as this, upcycling is a trend that has been on the rise for a couple of years, rather than discarding old furniture, give it a makeover to match your new home interior.

Not only will sustainability be an increasing necessity, we forecast that it will become a hot trend in 2020.

Neutrals

Once again classic neutrals are going to be a big trend in 2020. Neutral colours are always popular as they come in pretty, serene shades and they're not busy. Neutral colours are whites with cool or warm undertones, such as beige and grey shades which can be matched with bold coloured furniture. Our prediction for 2020 sees warm neutrals, such as taupe, making their way in, while cool neutrals, including grey shades, will fade into the background. Don't underestimate the power of neutral décor, it still gives the blank canvas effect a white wall does whilst ensuring the homely ambiance is protected.

Texture

Using texture can create a calm, comfy, chilled-out space to relax in. You can still keep a simple and understated style while keeping the interior design of your home relaxed and not overly minimalist. 2020 is bringing with it crafted, artisan style, raw materials and unrefined finishes, textures and tactile qualities are taking the place of bold colours for adding interest.

Sophisticated textured materials such as velvet will be making a comeback this year, whilst many will think of bright red stage curtain velvet, it will be more dusky pastels or bold emeralds and blues to use as standout furniture in a neutral room. Luxury materials such as pewter, marble and velvet all mix together beautifully to a create fine decorative details and is sure to be a common theme in interior design this year.
