AVID GAMER GAINS PERFECT PAD WITH HELP FROM HIS GRANDAD

  • Mattheus Sookoo (30)
  • Purchased a one-bedroom with study apartment at Tilbury Lodge, South Croydon
  • Hobbies include playing fantasy board games and reading comic books
  • Purchased using 40% Help to Buy and help from his Grandad

First time buyer Mattheus Sookoo (30), Production Manager at Love Hemp, has secured a home with plenty of room for gaming and entertaining, thanks to the government's Help to Buy scheme and additional help from his Grandad.

"I am an avid gamer, so it was really important for me to find a home where I had enough space to host friends for games nights. Instead of having two bedrooms, my flat has a bedroom and a study, which was something I really wanted. My Grandad had agreed to help me with a deposit, so when I found the right apartment, I gave him a call and we booked a viewing. With his assistance and the 40% Help to Buy scheme I was able to secure the home I wanted" explains Mattheus.

"I have transformed the study into my dream games den. Tabletop gaming can take hours, so it's fantastic to finally have a space to dedicate to this, the room is beginning to come together and I have hung shelves to display my comic books and create extra storage."

"I moved in at the beginning of August and feel really settled already, I can walk to work in just under ten minutes and I have plenty of space to work from home if needed. Before lockdown, I was a regular gym goer and whilst working from home I have found the living area is a great space to exercise and when the weather has been nice I've also been using the balcony!" he continues.

"The whole apartment has been finished to a high specification, I visited a number of other developments and some of them didn't come with any appliances, which was definitely a bonus when I looked here! The local area is great too, I have two sisters, aged nine and 13, who often stay over and there is plenty to keep them occupied. The development will have an onsite play area, which they are both really excited about and Croham Hurst Woods isn't too far away either. I can easily get into Central Croydon and Central London for nights out and South Croydon itself has loads of nice independent restaurants and pubs."

"I moved to Central Croydon from Sunbury last year for work and had been renting a flat while I found my feet and explored the area. I was really excited to purchase my first home and South Croydon seemed like the perfect place for me. My friend showed me the brochure for Tilbury Lodge and when I saw the floor plan of my home I was immediately interested."

"The move to South Croydon has meant that I am more local to my friends too, my flat is now the go to hangout for everyone!" concludes Mattheus.

Located within a peaceful setting and surrounded by trees just off a residential road, Tilbury Lodge by Shanly Homes is now over 50% sold. The collection of one, two and three-bedroom apartments benefit from flexible open plan layouts that suit a range of lifestyles. Large windows guarantee that rooms are flooded with plenty of natural light, whilst many properties benefit from private outside space in the form of a patio or balcony.

Locally, residents are well catered for. South Croydon itself benefits from plenty of restaurants including Zizzi, Aqua Bar and Grill, and Yumn Brasserie is a short walk from home. Croham Hurst Woods, Croham Hurst Golf Club, Bramley Bank, Lloyd Park and Coombe Wood are also all a short distance from Tilbury Lodge, guaranteeing ample opportunity for residents to explore the outdoors.

Just a three-minute train journey, or an eight-minute car ride away, is East Croydon, where residents will find Centrale Shopping Centre home to Zara, Next and Primark and The Whitgift Centre home to Topshop, Waterstones, Superdry and Marks and Spencer amongst others. Cinema goers can enjoy a night at the movies at Vue Cinema and foodies will be pleased with the restaurants on offer, including Nandos, Five Guys, Wagamama and BOXPARK.

Commuters are well placed at Tilbury Lodge thanks to the superb train connections at South Croydon station (Zone 5), reaching London Bridge in under 40 minutes. The scheme further benefits from a car club membership, with residents having access to an electric car which is based outside of the development. The M25 is just eight miles away providing homeowners with access to the wider motorway network, while those who travel abroad for business or pleasure can reach Gatwick Airport in just 30 minutes via car.

Prices at Tilbury Lodge begin at £345,000 for a one-bedroom apartment. For further information visit www.shanlyhomes.com or call selling agents Barnard Marcus on 020 8166 7277.
