Go greener and live cleaner for World Environment Day

5th June marks World Environment Day, which this year will focus on Ecosystem Restoration. Promoting ways to help preserve our precious planet and bring back plants and animals from the brink of extinction, the campaign will encourage everyone to plant trees, encourage wildlife into their gardens and clean up the oceans.

At Shanly Homes, we are proud to support leading environmental charities and organisations and incorporate the following initiatives into the new homes that we build across the South East.

  1. Building Forests with the Woodland Trust:For every apartment we build, we fund the planting of 10 native trees which are planted in some of the Woodland Trust's 1,000 woods, supporting them in their mission to double the amount of woodland covering the UK.
  2. Creating Natural Habitats:We are committed to improving natural habitats for wildlife at each of our developments and where possible, we include bird boxes in gardens and communal areas, as well as installing bee bricks in our new homes, providing a vital resting spot for pollinators and insects.
  3. Supporting the RSPB:Our new home buyers receive a year-long subscription to the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), enabling them to visit any RSPB Centre in the UK free-of-charge and supporting nature conservation.
  4. Reducing Landfill Usage:Thanks to our partnership with the National Community Wood Recycling project, we are able to reduce our landfill usage and increase the volume of waste being re-used, re-sold or recycled.

This World Environment Day, we encourage everyone to take positive action and make more sustainable choices, whether that's reducing single use plastics or cycling more than driving, we can all make a difference to the environment that we live in.

We currently have a variety of homes for sale across Surrey, all of which perfectly balance town and country living and feature a variety of environmentally friendly elements, guaranteeing environmentally friendly living is a breeze:

Set in the historical market town of Godalming Amber Lodge offers rural living at its finest with river and woodland walks all easily reachable by foot. Wildlife and outdoor enthusiasts can venture out and explore Winkworth Arboretum, home to 95 acres of beautiful shrubs and trees, just an eight-minute cycle away, offering homes to wildlife as well as an impressive backdrop for woodland walks all year-round.

For those keen on being environmentally friendly, Godalming hosts a zero waste, personal care and household goods market to encourage locals to recycle and create eco-friendly products.
