First time buyers escape the city for the country life at Clock Field

When Nicola and Dom first set their sights on the country life, the couple knew that Help to Buy was their best option, so prioritised new homes in their search. They had already seen a few developments in the area when they came across Clock Field in Turners Hill, West Sussex. They knew instantly that this was the one they wanted.

32-year-old Nicola explains: "We were living a two-bedroom flat in Bromley and were fed up of renting. We came into some inheritance, so it became the ideal time to get ourselves onto the ladder. My family live in East Grinstead, so that became the focus of our search, as I also needed to be able to commute into London and Dom to Gatwick easily."

Dom, 36, continues: "We had seen two or three other developments locally, but nothing really stood out to us. When we discovered Clock Field, we were stunned that this appeared to be in our price range - the quality of the homes and the location seemed too good to be true. A visit to the site and a talk with the sales team cemented our decision to buy here. We knew straight away that this was our home."

To purchase the property the couple used the government's Help to Buy scheme, requiring just a 5% deposit to secure their dream home. The couple were full of praise for Shanly's sales team, saying: "The whole process was really smooth, and our mortgage advisor was fantastic; after years of renting, we were so excited to finally move in."

Being at home more during lockdown has meant more time to decorate their new three-bedroom house and the couple are excited about finally being able to have friends and family over. Dom says: "We were a bit impulsive, putting up new decking in the garden, wallpapering and painting walls very soon after moving in. The house is ideal for entertaining with lots of space and the layout flows nicely: we can't wait to have guests over eventually! The smaller bedroom also makes a great office - incredibly helpful as we're both working from home - and the second bedroom is Nicola's dressing room."

Nicola says one of the best things about their new home is the garden: "It backs onto open field, really highlighting the space the location affords compared to our flat back in Bromley. We've just bought a new puppy and having the space for him to run around in is wonderful, plus there's lots of green spaces locally which we can't wait to take him to once he's had all of his jabs. This is the life we'd always wanted, and we're thrilled to finally be here."

Clock Field comprises 33, three, four and five bedroom homes in the quaint West Sussex village of Turners Hill. Each house features beautifully appointed shaker-style kitchens with integrated Siemens or Zanussi appliances. Master bedrooms are equipped with luxury en-suite bathrooms and fitted wardrobes.

The village of Turners Hill boasts many independent retailers, such as a local butcher and a village store. Along with a range of leisure amenities close by, its location also benefits from being on the doorstep of the expansive High Weald Area of Natural Beauty (AONB), which is renowned for its countryside walks, attractive woodland and farmland landscapes between West Sussex and Kent - perfect for taking the puppy for a walk.

The development is just a short drive from bustling East Grinstead, which provides further amenities and direct trains to London Victoria in under an hour, making the homes ideal for commuters like Nicola. The M24 and M25 are accessible by road for journeys further afield, and Gatwick Airport is also just 15 minutes' drive away.
