Shanly Homes & Wood Store Brighton Create Outdoor Classroom

We’re thrilled to announce that Balcombe C of E Primary School’s new outdoor classroom is complete and ready for the children to enjoy, rain or shine!

This fantastic space was built by social enterprise, The Wood Store Brighton, part of Community Wood Recycling, and funded by Shanly Homes. The classroom offers pupils a wonderful opportunity to experience the outdoors in all seasons, encouraging creativity, wellbeing, and a love for nature.

Community Wood Recycling has been making a positive impact for many years by promoting sustainability and reducing waste. They rescue and repurpose timber that would otherwise go to landfill, turning it into high-quality products and projects for local communities. Their work not only benefits the environment but also provides training and employment opportunities for people facing barriers to work, making them a truly inspiring organisation.

When the chance arose to collaborate with Community Wood Recycling on an outdoor classroom near our latest development, Rectory Gardens, we couldn’t wait to get involved. Supporting the communities in which we build is a core part of what we do, and we believe that creating spaces and opportunities that enhance local life is one of the most meaningful aspects of development. When we can make a difference on multiple levels, through collaboration with like-minded organisations, it becomes even more impactful. This partnership reflects our shared values of sustainability, education, and community enrichment.

We can’t wait to see the children enjoying this space for lessons, activities, and play whatever the weather!
